The Anglo-Zulu Wars
This is probably the most famous of the Anglo-Zulu battles. Isandlwana is to this day the battle in which the British suffered the highest number of casualties at the hands of a native army and also where they showed extraordinary courage resulting in the awarding of 11 Victoria Crosses.
Travel deep into Zululand and meet a renowned Battlefields storyteller. Our first stop is the stage of the Battle of Isandlwana. Here a portion of British troops were overwhelmed by 20 000 Zulu warriors, who overthrew trained soldiers, making this one of the Empire’s worst defeats.
The battle gains momentum at Rorke’s Drift where, under the command of Lt. John Chard, 120 soldiers mounted a courageous defence and defeated 3000+ Zulus. Eleven Victoria Crosses were awarded, the most in British history for a regiment for a single action. Discover the history as well as the new revelations. Our final stop is at Fugitives Drift before heading back to Durban.
